About the Gymkhana Club Golf Course
Being an ancient colony of the British Empire, golf is practiced in Mauritius since 1902 when the first Golf club, The Gymkhana Golf Club, was open by the Royal Navy members.
The Mauritius Gymkhana Club was founded as a service club for these British officers serving in Mauritius during the entire period of the first half of the nineteenth century.
The golf courses started as a 9-holer, and was increased to 18-hole in the 1950's. Today the golf course is a 18-hole, par 68 of 4,870 meters long.
The Gymkhana Club being the most ancient golf course of Mauritius may not feature all the complexities of modern golf courses, but it is perfectly maintained.
The Gymkhana is situated in Vacoas, located in the centre of the Island, nestled in a sun drenched countryside and surrounded by forestry.
The golf course is open to members, tourists and locals, and visitors may apply for temporary membership.
The Gymkhana Club course is surely the most affordable 18-hole course of Mauritius.
The dress code requires men in collared shirts with tailored trousers or tailored shorts with long socks and, women in collared shirts with skirt below knee length, or long shorts or tailored trousers.
The Gymkhana Club offers its visitors selection of facilities including the 18-hole international golf course, recreational facilities, bar, restaurant, library, swimming pool, tennis courts, squash course, fitness centre and conference room.
The golf green fees includes also full access to all other sports and other facilities of the Gymkhana Club for the day.
Golf lessons can be booked following prior advance request.
