Aapravasi Ghat is a dilapidated complex of buildings and was the first immigration office in the world. Located in Port Louis; Aapravasi Ghat was opened in 1849 by the British government and was the first place for the reception of immigrants from India. The complex occupies an area of approximately 1640 m2. Between 1849 and 1920, 500,000 Indian workers came through the immigration office.
