Package Itinerary

The island of Mauritius, stationed in the calm cool waters of the Indian Ocean, is home to some of the world’s most pristine beaches and lush landscapes. It’s a nation with a culture as diverse as its beautiful landscape. A trip to this far-off destination is a perfect way to rejuvenate, and three days exploring the island offers travelers just enough time to experience the history, dip their toes in the sand, and head out into the water—all before making their way back home.

Day 1: Colonial Times

Start your trip in Port Louis, the island’s political, economic, and cultural hub. Wander the bustling streets that some 150,000 people call home while you witness the nation’s colonial past, evident in some of the city’s architectural landmarks. From the famed Government House to the Port Louis Theatre and the English Saint James Cathedral, there’s a bit of Europe on nearly all these city streets.

It’s also possible for bibliophiles to take a literary tour of the city to see where great authors like Marie-Therese Humbert and Robert Edourd-Hart gleaned their island inspiration.

Day 2: Natural Wonders

After a day exploring the capital city, head to the hills, where some of the country’s most breathtaking scenery and unique destinations draw travelers from across the globe. Venture up the natural stairs at Chamarel Waterfall, where thundering waters plunge some 100 meters into crystal clear pools. Most spectacular during the rainy season, visitors agree that some of the most picturesque views can be seen from atop Chamarel.

From the falls head to Seven Coloured Earths—perhaps the most-visited destination on the island of Mauritius. Volcanic rock, rich in iron and aluminum, gives these dunes their unique blue and red colors. While a fence now prevents travelers from touching the dunes, it’s still possible to scoop up handfuls of nearby sand to see how it separates into distinct layers all on its own.

Day 3: Island Hopping

Spend the final day jetting off to one of Mauritius’ nearby islands. Ile aux Cerfs, a private island on the country’s east coast, is owned by an exquisite five-star hotel and offers travelers tropical luxury. From pristine beaches to world-class restaurants, an 18-hole golf course, and a nearly untouched quiet lagoon—this island gem provides the ultimate island escape.

Day 4: Day free at Leisure
