About the Gymkhana Club Golf Course
Being an ancient colony of the British Empire, golf has been practiced in Mauritius since 1902 when the first Golf club, The Gymkhana Golf Club, was opened by the Royal Navy members.
The Mauritius Gymkhana Club was founded as a service club for these British officers serving in Mauritius during the entire period of the first half of the nineteenth century.
The golf courses started as a 9-holer, and were increased to 18 holes in the 1950s. Today, the golf course is an 18-hole, par 68 of 4,870 meters long.
The Gymkhana is situated in Vacoas, located in the centre of the Island, nestled in a sun-drenched countryside and surrounded by forestry.
The golf course is open to members, tourists and locals, and visitors may apply for temporary membership.
The Gymkhana Club course is surely the most affordable 18-hole course in Mauritius.
