Day 2 -Chateau de Labourdonnais - SSR Botanical Garden

The Château de Labourdonnais is a family home that has welcomed more than three generations of the Wiehe family. Added to 150 years of weathering, the tropical climate and insects, among other factors, had begun to cause a marked deterioration to the house, particularly to the structure and decorative elements. In 2006, the Board of Directors of the Compagnie Agricole de Labourdonnais entrusted Jacques Wiehe, a professional architect, to the task of restoring the château to its original state.

The company conceptualizes, alongside the restoration work, a reflection on the cultural significance of the château and the estate. Claude Fauque and Alexander Fruh, respectively a museologist and a renowned French designer, were contacted. Their brief was to present the Château de Labourdonnais as a cultural place following the concept of "a château in a natural setting" where its history, flora, orchards, cuisine, and Mauritian expertise would be highlighted.

The Château de Labourdonnais

Enjoy a visit to “a château in a natural setting” where the history is beautifully merged with architecture, flora, orchards, cuisine, and Mauritian expertise.

Situated in the North part of Mauritius, in the heart of a fertile orchard and splendid garden lies The Château de Labourdonnais, where endemic plants and large varieties of exotic trees grow in harmony.
As part of the Tour, you will enjoy the following:

• Visit the “Château”
• Visit the Gardens & Orchards
• Visit to the “Rhumerie des Mascareignes”
• Tasting Bar

Day 3 - Free at Leisure

You can enjoy a full day in your hotel free at leisure

Day 4 -Port Louis National History Museum - Blue Penny Museum Caudan Waterfront

Decreed National Museum in the year 2000, the Natural History Museum is the oldest museum in Mauritius. The museum is home to more than 35,000 geological samples and natural history specimens, 3,000 of which are on display. Housed in the old Royal College in Port Louis, this museum showcases Mauritius’ rich and diverse flora and fauna.

What makes Mauritius’ Natural History Museum an exceptional place are the relics of extinct species on exhibit. Among them is a complete skeleton of a Rodrigues Solitaire, the last of these Dodo-like birds that disappeared at the end of the 18th century, two giant tortoises, and Sumeires, a species of turtle that became extinct in the 17th century…

There are also numerous specimens of now-extinct animals such as the Giant Mauritian Lizard, considered the largest lizard in the world, and of course the famous Dodo, Mauritius’ national symbol. You will marvel at the creatures that lived on land, in the ocean, or in the skies, of all shapes and sizes, on display in the museum. If you would like to find out more about Mauritius’ surviving flora and fauna, visit our Meet the Animals section. The museum’s geology collection is also very interesting and at the end of the tour visit Blue Penny Museum - Caudan Waterfront.

Day 5 -National History Museum Mahebourg

The National History Museum, Mahébourg: This old colonial house, dating from the 18th Century, depicts the main episodes in Mauritius’ vibrant history. Old maps, delicate china, corsairs’ swords, ancient powder guns, and remnants of shipwrecks are all on display here.

Town of Mahebourg

The old colonial capital of Mauritius, Mahébourg is in the South-West of the island, on the shores of the country’s biggest lagoon. It is the town that is closest to the island’s only airport. Unusual in its mix of colonial and Creole architecture, Mahébourg is a sleepy coastal village that is only really animated on market day or for festivals. The biggest town in the Grand Port district, Mahébourg has a population of more than 15,700 (figures from the 2000 census)

Day 5 -Shopping to Caudan Waterfront - Central Market -Bagatelle Shopping Mall

Then you can experience a full day of shopping tours at Caudan Waterfront. Since its opening in 1996, it has shown undeniable know-how and expertise in commercial activities and entertainment. On top of being an undeniable must for shopping, Le Caudan Waterfront is also a business center, a melting pot for local artists, and a favorite meeting place for gastronomes, tourists, and locals looking for leisure and entertainment. Then we will visit the Central Market of Port Louis and last Bagatelle Shopping Mall.
