Day 2: Balaclava Ruins – Pamplemousses Garden

Explore the Balaclava Ruins in Mauritius and experience their mystery.

You may think that the primary attractions of Mauritius are its beautiful beaches, nature excursions, shopping opportunities, and nightlife – and you would be correct. However, you cannot truly experience the island unless you visit some of its historical sites. One such site is the Balaclava Ruins. The island’s history shapes every visitor’s experience, and Mauritius has a particularly colorful past.

Visiting Balaclava today, you will witness the remnants of a colonial society from the 1800s. The ruins of the fortress estate also include ancient settlements that date back to before French rule, possibly even to the earliest settlers of Mauritius.

During your exploration, you will see traces of an old flour mill and a lime kiln. The flour mill was used to grind grain into flour, while the lime kiln was used for agricultural and construction purposes. Afterward, we will drive to the SSR Botanical Garden.

Day 3: Free at Leisure

Full day at the hotel, free at leisure.

Day 4: Paul et Virginie Monument – Sugar Estate Museum

Paul et Virginie Monument, Poudre d’Or

The most famous story in Mauritian folklore, Paul et Virginie, was inspired by the shipwreck of the St Géran, which met its end just off the north-east coast at Poudre d’Or. A small monument marks the spot where the ship sank.

Legend has it that while Paul, the son of a slave, was waiting for his beloved Virginie to return from overseas, her ship, the St Géran, ran aground on the rocks. Paul swam out to rescue her, but she refused to remove her clothing out of modesty. Her heavy Victorian dress dragged her underwater, and she drowned. Paul later died of a broken heart.

Then we will visit the Sugar Adventure. Enjoy an interesting excursion to an authentic old sugarcane factory, now transformed into an interactive museum where you will learn about the history of Mauritius and its sugar industry. A variety of souvenirs and local products can be purchased.

Day 5: Shopping at Caudan Waterfront – Central Market – Bagatelle Shopping Mall

Enjoy a full day of shopping at Caudan Waterfront. Since its opening in 1996, it has become a major center for shopping, entertainment, and culture. It is also a popular meeting place for artists, tourists, and locals.

Next, we will visit the Central Market of Port Louis, followed by the Bagatelle Shopping Mall.

Day 6: Free at Leisure

Enjoy a full day free at leisure.

Day 7: Transfers to the Airport

You will be met by our representative and transferred to Sir Seewoosagur International Airport.
