Day 2: Père Laval Pilgrimage
Père Laval Pilgrimage: Every 9th September, Mauritians of all faiths walk or drive to Sainte-Croix, near Port Louis, to visit the tomb of Blessed Jacques Désiré Laval—also known as the “Apostle of the Black People.” The celebrations around Père Laval, who is believed to have healing powers, remind visitors of the fervor of the Lourdes pilgrimage in France. Interestingly, Father Laval was the first person beatified during the pontificate of Pope John Paul II.
Day 3: The Red Roof Chapel, Cap Malheureux
Cap Malheureux is the northernmost point of the island and the place where General John Abercrombie landed his troops when the British first attacked the island. A tiny chapel famous for its red roof, the Notre-Dame Auxiliatrice—commonly known as the Red Roof Chapel—is worth a quick visit. Be sure to look out for its intricate interior woodwork and its holy-water basin, fashioned out of a giant clamshell.
Day 4: Diamond Factory – Floréal – Curepipe
Everyone knows that bringing back souvenir gifts is a common habit; however, it can often be time-consuming. In Mauritius, you will have a wide variety of options! Surprise your family and friends with exotic products such as perfume oils or handmade bags. You may also buy freshly made flavored tea bags or freshly ground coffee.
For those who have a soft spot for small replicas of ship models, you will surely appreciate the artwork of local craftsmen who specialize in creating replicas that represent the rich maritime history of Mauritius. Ladies, get ready to be dazzled by our diamond factory, where you will be impressed by the amazing skills of our craftsmen.
Shopping in Mauritius offers excellent value for money, turning your shopping into an interesting and enjoyable experience.
Day 5: Shopping at Caudan Waterfront – Central Market – Bagatelle Shopping Mall
Enjoy a full day of shopping at Caudan Waterfront. Since its opening in 1996, it has showcased undeniable expertise in commercial activities and entertainment. More than just a must-visit shopping destination, Le Caudan Waterfront is also a business center, a melting pot for local artists, and a favorite meeting place for food lovers, tourists, and locals seeking leisure and entertainment.
Next, we will visit the Central Market of Port Louis, and finally, the Bagatelle Shopping Mall.
